Job Summary
The Department Chair's responsibilities include oversight for and/or participation in departmental teaching, research, and scholarship. This is a full-time position with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences. The tenure status (on tenure track, tenure upon appointment, or not on tenure track) will be determined based on the qualifications of the final candidate and will be confirmed in the final offer along with position expectations.
Responsibilities- Uphold and exhibit in all the Augusta University values to include collegiality, compassion, excellence, integrity and leadership.
- Provide supervision, support, and oversight for all faculty and staff.
- Hire all faculty and staff and be responsible for all disciplinary actions.
- Be responsible for the assessment and evaluation of all faculty and staff with the input and assistance of the Program Director.
- Work effectively and support the Speech-Language Pathology Program Director in the goal of achieving excellence in academic programming and development.
- Critically review enrollment trends in Speech-Language Pathology and implement plans to effectively balance enrollment numbers with faculty capacity and department mission in teaching, research, service and clinical practice.
- Be responsible for the administration and oversight of the department's operations and budget.
- Advise and lead faculty in the promotion and tenure process.
- Advise students accordingly on program, college and university policies.
- Meet with class officers at least once each semester to maintain communication and elicit information about the conduct of the program.
- Meet with the entire class of students as needed.
- Maintain and encourage a positive environment for all faculty, staff, and students.
- Establish, implement and monitor policies and procedures for the department.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures and regulations.
- Provide effective team building for the department.
- Responsible for the organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous programmatic review and analysis, planning, development, completion of the CAA and ASHA required documents and adherence to policies.
- Cultivate a department as a community of scholars rooted in trust and transparency.
- Supervise the Clinical Director, faculty and staff in all activities that relate directly to the Program.
- Prepare reports for the external and internal constituents of the department (Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences, CAA, ASHA, etc).
- Conduct Annual Faculty Performance Evaluations of faculty to review past and present goals which are completed and forwarded to the Dean's Office for review and signatures.
- Assign teaching responsibilities and workloads to faculty which are comparable to other faculty within the College of Allied Health Sciences.
- Participate in the appointment, promotion and tenure process.

- PhD in a related area or an EdD.
- The candidate must be licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) in the U.S. The candidate should have at least 7 years of combined academic and clinical experience including program directing and managing faculty. The candidate must be a graduate from an accredited SLP program.
