HCA Graduate Medical Education (GME) is the largest sponsor of residency and fellowship training programs across the nation. With more than 300 programs across more than 60 hospitals, we are building a leading network of innovative, patient‑centered graduate medical education programs. GME is a relatively new service line within HCA Healthcare. The group is expected to grow substantially over the next several years, so this is an excellent growth opportunity. HCA hospitals currently train more than 5,000 residents and fellows with that number growing to nearly 8,000 by 2028.
In partnership with the Division Vice President of GME, the Division Director of Graduate Medical Education (DDGME) is responsible for the operations, strategic planning, leadership and management of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) development and maintenance in the Division. The DDGME works with the DVP to resolve complex issues and make business decisions for the GME enterprise in the Division.
This role is hospital based with some travel required.
Readiness and Accreditation- Work with each facility to ensure ongoing readiness for institutional review by ACGME and secure necessary paperwork.
- Conduct quarterly audits of each specialty area as designated by the Division or Corporate Leadership and/or program directors.
- Facilitate necessary training and orientation for each facility.
- Develop mechanisms to ensure appropriate teaching of ACGME competencies.
- Assist the DVP and hospitals with the creation of new programs.
- Manage the application process with external resources.
- Stay abreast of agenda close dates and monitor timely submission of new program applications.
- Oversee new and continued program accreditation and maintenance of institutional accreditation.
- Communicate with program directors.
- Track accreditation status of programs.
- Address needed program changes and citations.
- Monitor and assist facilities as they prepare for site visits.
- Participate in internal review process and assessment of annual program improvements, and assist in reporting action steps to the Division or Corporate Leadership and related program directors.
- Manage the hiring and training of all GME staff in the Division.
- Audit and run reports as needed from the residency management tool to ensure programs are appropriately populated with information.
- Assist in ensuring that faculty agreements/contracts are managed timely by each hospital.
- Facilitate smooth transition for PDs, APDs, and Core Faculty into employment by HCA.
- Create efficient pathways for entrance into the organization by Program Coordinators and facilitate any required orientation.
- Identify revenue enhancement and cost containment initiatives, and in conjunction with hospitals prepare operating and capital budgets for Graduate Medical Education cost centers.
- Manage fiscal and human resources for Graduate Medical Education.
- Determine resources required to meet goals and objectives.
- Review and approve contracts between Medical Education and internal and external partners.
- Supervise daily activities of the facility or market GME staff leaders and Residency Coordinators to ensure institutional program guidelines are satisfied.
- Handle performance appraisals, discipline, scheduling, and other supervisory duties.
- Regularly interact with facility C‑Suite in support of GME staff and program requirements to ensure alignment of facility and GME goals.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for related programs.
- Manage all Division Accreditation Site Visits.
- Assist the VP of the Division with any needed activity.
- Oversee resident liaison meetings; organize and chair GMEC meetings in the absence of the DIO.
