Under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Pharmacy provides leadership to the organization related to policies, processes, and regulatory requirements to support a safe medication environment that reduces errors and the potential for harm across all disciplines. The Medication Safety Specialist (MSS) provides support and standardization for medication safety improvement plans. The MSS guides compliance with regulatory agencies related to medication safety.
The MSS serves as a resource for information related to medication safety.
Doctorate of Pharmacy - Required
Bachelors of Science - Required
Experience5-7 Years National Patient Safety Goals; JCAHO;
State Board of Pharmacy - Required
Quality assessment experience with thorough knowledge of JCAHO requirements specific to pharmacy - Required
Health System inner-related activities - Required
License & CertificationProfessional License with State of Practice - Required
Core Job Functions- Provides leadership in fostering non punitive culture for medication error reporting and analysis. Coordinates the standardization of medication safety process improvement plans for the organization. Assists in the analysis of data collected and the development of action plans to improve medication safety.
- Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to medication safety based on CQI principles adopted by the SJC and recognized by The Joint Commission.
- Serves as a resource for information related to medication safety including eMAR, BMVD, CPOE, and smart pump infusion technology.
- Participate in committees include Pharmacy and therapeutics Committee, Care of patient TJC Readiness Team, Co-chair the Medication Management Team.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the Adverse Drug Event reporting program including medication errors.
