Description:
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative.
Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures.
Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.
Able to independently perform job functions.
Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for the procedure.
Acts as a clinical coordinator for imaging students.
Fills out student rotation evaluations honestly and ethically.
Ability to provide constructive criticism to students during their rotation.
Functions as a clinical instructor for students rotating through the Medical Imaging department.
Obtain complete clinical history, gather examination data and assess for contraindicating conditions.
Follow established procedures for the administration of contrast media.
Ensure that all studies have proper patient identification and right and left markers utilized appropriately.
Review radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and release patients.
Respond to emergency situations and provide for the restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment.
Assist other technologists in all modalities when needed.
Observe patient condition and evaluate situations when physician intervention is necessary.
Verify two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order prior to performing a procedure per policy.
Ensure patient privacy and comfort are accommodated.
Demonstrate competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on the age of patients.
Organize schedule, time, and priorities so that required activities are accomplished within designated time frames.
Follow physician's instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
Use critical thinking skills and ask clarifying questions.
Seek clarification on ambiguous orders.
Understand, demonstrate, and document preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
Demonstrate and understand pre-and post-procedural care.
Prepare the patient for the procedure and demonstrate understanding of sterile technique.
Maintain competency with venipuncture, where applicable.
Adjust technique to ensure the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
Report problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider.
Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department schedule.
Operate all aspects of the system and all radiographic equipment safely and competently.
Patiently and clearly explain the purpose and nature of exams to patients prior to the procedure.
Ensure that patient questions, concerns, or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed.
Participate in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
Provide patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
Ensure documentation is concise and legible.
Read emails each day scheduled to work and follow through with assignments.
Complete mandatory departmental and education without prompting.
Consistently produce high-quality images while ensuring equipment is fully operational prior to each use.
Send all studies to storage systems and ensure exams are complete and accurately labeled.
Restock linens and supplies, and maintain Imaging Services in a clean and orderly condition.
Transport patients, position patients, and assist them on and off the procedure table.
Perform patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
Apply shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices and equipment.
Provide assistance to others upon request as needed without prompting.
Perform routine duties of clerical and support personnel as warranted.
Keep supervisors informed about responsibilities on an ongoing basis.
Maintain an individual productivity rate equal to co-workers.
Maintain regulatory agency standards.
Transfer/retrieve images on the storage system.
