Job SummaryThe Certified Medical Assistant will work at various Wellstar Clinics within an assigned region. They perform assigned patient care duties under the direction of a licensed provider (MD/PA/NP) or RN, including vital sign collection, specimen collection, basic diagnostic testing, medication administration within approved scopes, and maintaining exam rooms in an outpatient care setting.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Completion of Ambulatory Intake: interview patients, obtain vital signs, height and weight, medical, family, and social history, verify current problem, update allergies and medications, and accurately record findings in the EMR. May be required to perform EKGs, ABIs, six‑minute walk tests, etc.
- Assist physicians with exams and procedures, prepare rooms with supplies and instruments, provide education and emotional support to patients during procedures, dispose of biohazard waste properly, and document procedures in the EMR.
- Answer triage nurse line or retrieve voicemail messages, provide information to callers promptly (within 24 hours), document dispositions in Power Chart, consult with RN/PA as needed, and maintain contact with supported providers during non‑clinic days.
- Obtain labs (blood, urine, nasal swabs) per policy, document and charge accordingly; administer seasonal flu/pneumonia vaccines and other site‑specific pre‑measured injections.
- Maintain assigned exam rooms: wipe down tables, equipment, BP cuffs, scales, computer keyboards, restock linen and supplies, log activities, monitor expiration dates, and perform environmental sweeps monthly or more often.
- Perform front‑office duties as assigned (registration, scheduling, payment collection, check‑in/out, insurance authorization, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma
- Certificate in Medical Assisting
- BLS-I - Basic Life Support – Instructor or BLS – Basic Life Support
- CMA – Certified Medical Assistant
Minimum 1 year in an outpatient setting.
Required Minimum Skills- Phlebotomy, EKG, and manual blood pressure measurement
