The Standardized Patient Educator reports to the Director of Standardized Patients and works with the SPEAR Center to recruit, train, and evaluate participants in Standardized Patient simulations for health professions learners. The role involves preparing and evaluating Standardized Patients (SPs) to portray medical patients and other healthcare roles, ensuring portrayals meet educational objectives and program requirements.
Responsibilities- Recruit and train Standardized Patients in patient and healthcare role portrayal to facilitate medical interviewing, communication, and physical exam skills by health professions learners.
- Ensure standardization and assessment consistency to meet educational objectives and program requirements.
- Observe and evaluate SP performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with the SPEAR team to coordinate development and implementation of complex simulation events, using evidence‑based approaches and aligning with ASPE Standards of Best Practices.
- Maintain documentation and records for reporting and accreditation, and contribute to program business activity, administration, and reporting.
- Lead the SP unit review of new and modified simulation cases, ensuring high‑quality scripts that meet learning objectives.
- Support SPs during simulation events: clarify case scenario questions, provide real‑time feedback, lead post‑event debriefs, and assist with planning and scheduling.
- Maintain knowledge of institutional and industry policies, standards, and regulations, and provide support across the simulation team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a healthcare field or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare or an academic setting.
- OR Master’s degree with 3 years of related experience.
- Familiarity with ASPE Standards of Best Practice.
- Training in coaching, feedback delivery, or performance evaluation.
- Two years of experience working with standardized patients or in simulation‑based education; background in healthcare, education, or theater.
- Ability to coach performance, evaluate role portrayal, and apply best practices in training; assistance with case design and development.
- Knowledge of simulation pedagogy, SP methodology, and adult learning principles.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases; detail‑oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and multi‑tasking skills.
Shift: Days – Monday to Friday, with possible work outside normal business hours. Salary: $56,600.00 to $72,200.00 annually, commensurate with qualifications. Recruitment Period: 11/12/25 – until filled.
