Job Description:- Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection using sterile techniques.
- Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received accurately.
- Verifies patient identity and correct laboratory tests for each patient.
- Orders supplies as needed for laboratory needs and POCT, and completes POCT Quality Controls ensuring daily logs are compliant.
- Performs various support activities to facilitate the operation of the assigned department, including answering the telephone, clerical duties, and assisting with special projects.
- Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis. Performs Point of Care Tests (POCT) that utilize blood as the sample and documents all phlebotomy or POCT correctly within the EHR. Performs post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing as needed.
- Ensures other samples, such as urine, stool, and pathology, are labeled correctly and sent to the correct lab.
- Maintains work spaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner.
- Performs pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance, function checks, and documentation.
- Prioritizes Stat and Alert specimens before routine orders.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills. [Required]
- Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) [Required]
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask. [Required]
- Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment. [Required]
- Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc [Required]
- High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
- Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
- Phlebotomy experience [Preferred]
- N/A
Certifications:
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) [Preferred]
- Basic Life Support (BLS) [Preferred]
