Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director or designee in charge, The Phlebotomist is responsible for patient identification, drawing blood, specimen handling, labeling and transporting specimens to the lab, and inputting data into the computer in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. This position requires customer service skills and knowledge of different tests that are run in the laboratory or sent to reference laboratories.
The Phlebotomist may have to prioritize a workload of competing priorities and draws in different areas. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment.
Standards of Performance
Consistently finds the vein and draws blood in accordance with policies and procedures.
