The engineer will work closely with Dev Ops, backend, ETL, and functional teams to design safe migration strategies, reduce production risks, improve observability, and build repeatable database operation practices.
The position offers the opportunity to influence migration architecture, define database standards, improve monitoring and backup processes, and become a key technical owner for database reliability in complex enterprise environments.
Responsibilities- Run and analyze MySQL upgrade compatibility checks, identify blockers, and prepare remediation plans.
- Review database configuration, schemas, indexes, stored routines, replication setup, users, grants, and backup strategy.
- Design and support migration approaches such as logical dump/restore, staged upgrade, replica‑based migration, or blue‑green cutover.
- Prepare migration runbooks, validation checklists, rollback plans, and production cutover procedures.
- Support performance testing, query plan analysis, and post‑migration tuning.
- Collaborate with Dev Ops engineers to integrate monitoring, alerting, backup automation, and operational dashboards.
- At least 2 years of experience with MySQL, including major version upgrades and compatibility assessment.
- Experience in planning and executing production database migrations with clear rollback and validation strategies.
- Solid knowledge of replication, backups, restore procedures, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Ability to analyze database schemas, stored procedures, triggers, views, users, grants, charsets, collations, and SQL modes.
- Experience with Linux‑based database environments, shell scripting, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of high‑availability, downtime minimization, RPO/RTO, and production change management.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with Dev Ops, backend engineers, functional consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Nice‑to‑have:
Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Alert manager, Loki, or similar observability tools. - Nice‑to‑have:
Knowledge of Postgre
SQL, Maria
DB, or cloud‑managed databases. - Nice‑to‑have:
Familiarity with data migration, ETL, data validation, or reconciliation processes.
