The Technology Technician provides front-line technical support for the Technology Department in a dynamic environment serving five schools and the Town of Ellington. Reporting to the Manager of Support and the Director of Technology, this entry-level position assists with the maintenance, improvement, and support of district and municipal technology systems. The Technology Technician supports hardware and software operations, responds to user needs, and works both independently and collaboratively to help maintain reliable technology services across the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Install, maintain, and upgrade district and town technology hardware, including computers, printers, and audio-visual equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely and professional manner
- Install, configure, and support district technology software
- Review and prioritize support requests based on urgency and operational impact
- Assist the Network Administrator and Systems Administrator with technical projects and higher-level support tasks
- Provide technical support and basic user training to staff on technology systems and software
- Maintain accurate inventory records and detailed service documentation
- Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and recurring issues in an organized manner
- Collaborate with technology staff to support district and town technology initiatives and goals
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Support or Director of Technology
- Possession of CompTIA A+ Certification, or the ability to obtain it, is required; equivalent hands‑on technical experience preferred
- Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, basic networking, and commonly used educational and municipal software platforms
- Strong communication, customer service, organizational, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage, prioritize, and resolve multiple technical issues simultaneously
This is a full‑time position of 40 hours per week at an hourly rate of $24.09. The successful applicant will be required to complete a state and national criminal background check, as well as a DCF database check.
