Job Description & How to Apply Below
About the Role
What if your years of graduate-level physics training could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge AI models—exposing gaps in their reasoning, catching violations of fundamental physical laws, and building the benchmarks that make AI smarter and more scientifically rigorous. This is fully remote, flexible contract work. No AI background needed—just deep domain expertise and a passion for getting the physics right.
Organization:

Type:
Hourly Contract
Location:
Remote
Commitment: 10-40 hours/week
- Design advanced physics problems—craft open-ended, multi-step challenges at PhD qualifying exam level spanning quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, and classical mechanics.
- Author rigorous ground-truth solutions—write precise, step-by-step "golden responses" where every constant, unit, and logical step is exactly right.
- Audit AI-generated reasoning—identify where models hallucinate physics, violate first principles, or mishandle boundary conditions and conservation laws.
- Provide structured feedback—help AI systems develop physics-informed reasoning that genuinely respects the constraints of the physical world.
- Work independently and asynchronously—fully on your own schedule, with no micromanagement.
- Holds a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field.
- Deep mastery across the core pillars:
Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics. - Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured English.
- Uncompromising precision with units, scientific notation, dimensional analysis, and logical proof structure.
- Self-motivated and reliable when working independently.
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required.
- Prior experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance.
- Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (Num Py/Sci Py), MATLAB, or COMSOL.
- Experience designing physics coursework, qualifying exams, or research benchmarks.
- Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation as an end user.
- Work on some of the most intellectually challenging problems in AI development today.
- Collaborate with leading AI research labs and teams at the frontier of the field.
- Fully remote and flexible - work when and where it suits you.
- Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, high-impact project work.
- Contribute to ensuring AI reasons correctly about the physical universe.
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch.
