The Workforce Development Director position is a new role with The Scruggs Company and will lead the company's training and development efforts for field and office employees. In addition, this position will be directly involved in the succession planning process and lead/implement the development plans for those named in the succession plan. There is a significant amount of autonomy in this role, while remaining fully coordinated with leaders at all levels throughout the company.
This position will report to the Vice President, Human Resources, and the person can be located in any Scruggs office in Georgia. The position will have statewide responsibilities, so travel by car will be a regular part of the position.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Reports to:
The Workforce Development Director is responsible and accountable to the Vice President, Human Resources.
Basic function:
The accurate and efficient processing of training records; conducting programs and exercises to further workforce development; maintaining and scheduling the use of training facilities; the maintenance and facilitation of Performance Management and Succession Plan processes and programs.
Job duties:
Create and issue rosters for employees as they pertain to orientation, initial training, onboarding, briefings, biometrics; et al.
Remove terminated / separated employees from the databases for training records and online training.
Run regular and periodic reports pertaining to incomplete training; present to managers as progress reports to stimulate accountability.
Enter the training record for all employees’ training sessions, conducted both internally and externally.
Maintain the database of employee training records, conducting regular audits to ensure that any personnel changes are recorded and the database is up to date.
Review the expirations of employees’ training and alert the proper parties.
Support and coordinate with the Safety Director regarding the safety training program; ensure safety training is properly entered into Arcoro in a timely manner. Building a positive and productive working relationship with the Safety Director and other Safety leaders is critical for success in the role.
Maintain training facilities; ensure they are provisioned and clean; maintain and administer the scheduling calendars.
Develop, introduce, and maintain a Foreman In Training program where future Foremen are identified and receive appropriate leadership training for success in the role.
Identify, select, enroll and monitor employees who are candidates for any DOT mandated OJT programs.
Develop and maintain an Engineer Development Program and keep a regular scheduled check on progress.
Manage the succession planning process and the development plans for individuals identified for future advancement within Scruggs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
A working understanding of construction and the challenges field employees face; credibility to interview, assess, coach and work with field employees, and to fairly and accurately evaluate leaders for accountability of programs’ progress / success.
Use of computer (especially fluency in Microsoft Office products, Arcoro, etc.), copy machine, projectors, and other typical office equipment.
Practical knowledge of learning systems, strategies and processes; the ability to communicate ideas and subjects effectively across different student learning capabilities; ability to draft learning plans and implement scheduling for effective instruction.
Experience:
5+ years in the construction industry, preferably with experience with field operations. Experience delivering training courses would be a huge advantage.
