The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR) protects, manages and enhances Nevada’s resources. The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) focuses on natural resource stewardship and wildfire management, partnering with the Department of Corrections to provide workforce training to inmates.
This position supervises the Nevada Division of Forestry operations at the Three Lakes Valley Conservation Camp (TLVCC) near Indian Springs, acting as the primary manager of the inmate worker program and ensuring the camp meets agency targets.
Responsibilities- Administer daily camp operations and provide leadership, training and direction to assigned staff.
- Order equipment and supplies, prepare and monitor camp budgets, and track expenditures.
- Develop and review operational and incident reports; implement corrective actions as needed.
- Coordinate natural resource management work year‑round and oversee wildfire response activities.
- Develop project estimates for funding, resources, equipment and labor; establish agreements with cooperators.
- Maintain camp resources, inventory and security planning; prepare emergency action plans.
- Supervise Conservation Crew Supervisors, including performance evaluations, scheduling and discipline.
- Serve as liaison with Department of Corrections officials and resolve operational issues.
- Market the conservation camp and its programs to landowners and managers; negotiate agreements for camp labor.
- Conduct project inspections, ensure OSHA compliance, and assess safety and security factors.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, forestry, natural resource management, business, public administration or a related field and one year of journey level experience supervising fire suppression and/or resource management crews; or
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in forestry, natural resource management, business, public administration or a related field and two years of journey level experience; or
- High school diploma or equivalent education and three years of journey level experience; or
- One year of experience as a Conservation Crew Supervisor III in Nevada State service; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
