Essential Attributes:

  • The Mission of the Clerk of Courts has a high degree of public accountability, regular attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.
  • Support and comply with the Mission Statement and Code of Conduct of the Clerk of Courts.
  • Maintain a high standard relating to professional conduct and behavior.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees of the work unit and embrace a teamwork approach to completing tasks.

Essential Tasks:

  • Provide accurate and professional customer service to Family Law customers, including those seeking Injunctions for Protection. Team members may rotate between Family Law and Domestic Violence counters.
  • Process new and reopened Family Law and Injunction for Protection cases.
  • Answer multi-line incoming telephone calls systematically and professionally.
  • Furnish information to customers, both in person and telephonically without giving legal advice.
  • Sell and explain Family Law self-help packets.
  • Assist in the Domestic Violence DIY room.
  • Timely and accurately send up emergency motions to the appropriate Judge.
  • Assist customers by providing information on the various types of Injunction for Protection cases.
  • Prepare, deliver and explain injunction packets to customers. Provide information and referral services to victims.
  • Perform data input to build or reopen cases in the New Vision system. Scan and Index pleadings.
  • Issue summons, subpoenas and notices of action. Process and certify copy requests.
  • May serve as backup clerk for injunction hearings.
  • Perform cashiering duties such as collection of monies, posting monies to appropriate case, balancing funds and reports daily.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills /

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Ability to acquire or have knowledge of current procedures within the various areas of responsibilities overall operations and workflow.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, and/or requests.
  • Ability to adhere to safety rules, operating equipment, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, read and speak English effectively to customers and employees.
  • Ability to read and write routine correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage work to meet necessary time requirements, performance measures, and workload.
  • Ability to apply job-related Florida statutes, and Clerk’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail, and ability to cover the work of others to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with other employees of the work unit, judiciary and other agencies that work with our agency.
  • Ability to remain flexible as conditions and procedures change and continue effective performance in the face of additional challenges.
  • Being able to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Ability to operate a PC and/or related software applications and accurately type 35 wpm
  • Six months related job experience and/or training.
