Georgia-Pacific Department Superintendent – Lumber Mill
Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Department Superintendent for our Lumber Mill in Warrenton, GA. The role will manage the kilns, planer mill, and shipping operations and lead a wood products production team to work injury‑free in a batch manufacturing environment using PBM®.
What You Will Do- Facilitate development and growth of a large team, reviewing, creating, conducting, and managing performance. Team includes up to 7 direct reports and 80 indirect reports.
- Drive safety excellence through employee involvement, ownership, and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement mitigating strategies.
- Maintain uptime performance, recovery, quality, departmental cost, and other KPIs to demonstrate year‑over‑year improvement.
- Plan and direct production activities, establish priorities in line with operational and cost factors.
- Coordinate production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control to achieve optimal utilization, recovery, and quality standards.
- Analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity or operational problems.
- Develop and implement operating methods and procedures to eliminate problems and improve uptime and product quality through continuous improvement.
- Consult with engineering on equipment modifications to improve uptime and product quality.
- Lead performance reviews and talent development.
- Partner with maintenance teams to schedule work and promote preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Build employee commitment and ownership, holding employees and leaders accountable for work and career development.
- Supervisory or management experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or military environment.
- Experience leading a department in EH&S, reliability, production, cost and quality excellence.
- Experience managing department‑level budgets and data to foster continuous improvement.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and ability to learn PC‑based production and operations applications.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering.
- Supervisory experience in dry‑end and/or green‑end lumber operations.
- Experience with multi‑fuel kiln systems.
- Experience with CMMS such as SAP, MP2, Active Plant.
