Georgia-Pacific – Quality Control Technician – Warrenton, GA
Georgia-Pacific is hiring a Quality Control Technician to join our Lumber facility in Warrenton, GA.
Salary- Starting pay: $23/hr and up depending on experience.
- Compensation increases based on skill and contribution.
- 12-hour rotating shift (3-week repeating cycle).

Job OverviewIn this hands-on role you will ensure our lumber meets quality, safety, and production targets, while supporting continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Safety & Compliance: Follow plant safety, environmental, and quality policies; maintain strict PPE compliance; adhere to lockout/tagout and confined-space procedures.
- Quality Inspections & Documentation: Perform routine and ad-hoc inspections to verify product dimensions, grade, and visual quality; use calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other devices; record results in logs and electronic files; maintain QC documentation and store files.
- Process Monitoring & Audits: Conduct process audits to determine specification compliance; execute structured quality schedules; document and track calibration of equipment.
- Troubleshooting & Optimization: Troubleshoot lumber quality issues; recommend corrective actions; adjust machine offsets; use Optimizer software and PLC/HMI interfaces; apply root-cause problem-solving methods.
- Collaboration & Communication: Communicate with operators, maintenance, supervisors; train operators on inspection methods and quality expectations; participate in Kaizen events and cross-functional problem solving.

Skills:
Maintain inspection records; generate periodic quality summaries; use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and plant systems. - Availability & Work
Conditions:
Be available for additional days/hours; accept weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, overtime; perform physical tasks (lift up to 50 lbs, walk, climb, stoop, stand); basic math and communication skills.
- Minimum one year experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Preferably one year experience in a quality/inspection role.
- Experience using calipers, micrometers, measuring tape, and common hand tools.
- Proficiency with basic computer use (Microsoft Office – Excel & Word).
- Three or more years of quality experience in manufacturing, preferably lumber or wood products.
- Experience with lumber grading and wood products inspection.
- Familiarity with PLC/HMI interfaces, Optimizer software, and maintaining machine offsets.
- Demonstrated root-cause analysis and corrective action experience (8D, 5 Whys).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks including climbing ladders and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in a sawmill environment with dust, noise, heat, and cold conditions.
