Fiber Line Leader
The Fiber Line Leader will report to the Production Manager in their respective departments (Spun Fiber / Blown Fiber) and will under general guidance direct production of their specified areas. This person will supervise line and furnace operators and line workers with respect to safety, production, cost, quality, and achievement of production plans.
Responsibilities include:
- Direct the manufacturing processes in assigned area to ensure continuous and uninterrupted production and manpower.
- Perform production troubleshooting to maintain efficiency, working with maintenance when necessary. Issue required work orders for maintenance repairs to production equipment.
- Lead SIM-1 operations and team meetings.
- Coordinate production scheduling with the supply chain team and Production Manager; communicating with Production Supervisor on necessary changes.
- Participate in decisions relating to daily production performance.
- Participate in the selection of new employees and recommend status changes.
- Develop and train all employees in standard operating procedures for area processes.
- Perform routine employee evaluations and hold regular 1:1 conversations with each team member.
- Serve as subject matter expert in assigned operational area.
- Interpret and administer company rules and policies.
- Ownership of area KPI results and reporting requirements.
- Lead and/or participate in continuous improvements and 6S projects for the area to reduce rejects and downtime and to increase production rates.
- Drive safety and housekeeping program within the manufacturing areas.
- Work and schedule overtime as needed to meet production needs.
- Participate and perform autonomous maintenance (TPM) on critical equipment.
- Approve employee times and time off requests in Asure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of three (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least one (2) years in a leadership role.
- Preference for individuals with prior Ceramic Fiber manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of machine operation and troubleshooting high desired.
Knowledge and skills include:
- Strong mathematical skills, mechanical aptitude and reading comprehension.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook and Excel).
- Ability to coach and develop direct reports.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
- Ability to analyze data and plan improvement activities.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work cohesively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, time management and organizational skills.
The typical schedule for this position is an 8-hour day shift, Monday through Friday. Overtime, holiday, and weekend work as needed.
Physical demands include:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk.
- Frequently use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls.
- The employee is frequently required to talk and hear to communicate with coworkers.
- Regularly required to climb, stoop, bend and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is regularly required to push or pull with hands or arms, kneel or crouch.
- The employee must be able to occasionally lift/move/maneuver up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to distinguish shades and colors.
Work environment characteristics include:
- This position will work primarily in a controlled office environment, however will have extended periods on the production floor.
- The noise level in the work environment is consistently above 85 decibels when on the production floor and wear hearing protection 100% of the time on work floor.
- During summer months, employee may have to work in temperatures as high as 110 degrees for prolonged periods of time.
- Dust from machine processes is constantly present.
- The employee constantly works near rotating equipment, mechanical parts, and lift trucks.
- Required to wear steel toed shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs in the manufacturing area. Respirators may be required in specific areas of the plant.
- Ability to maneuver around equipment and on various platforms within the production area.
- Ability to climb stairs and inspect process equipment.
