Description:

Cook’s Machine Shop, LLC is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join our team in Augusta, Georgia. We are a locally owned machine shop specializing in precision machining, industrial repair, custom manufacturing, and one-of-a-kind machining work. The Manual Machinist will operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and other conventional machine shop equipment to manufacture, repair, and modify parts. Our work includes a variety of industrial repair and custom machining jobs, so we are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently and performing setups from prints, samples, or existing parts.

Responsibilities include setting up and operating manual lathes and mills, turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, tapping, milling, and accurately measuring finished parts. The machinist will work with a variety of materials and must be capable of maintaining close tolerances and producing quality work. This is a full-time position with pay based on experience and skill level.

Qualifications:

Previous manual machining experience is required. Applicants should be able to:

  • Set up and operate manual engine lathes and milling machines
  • Read and understand blueprints, drawings, and machining specifications
  • Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, tapping, and milling operations
  • Properly use micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment
  • Determine proper speeds, feeds, tooling, and machining methods
  • Hold close tolerances and inspect completed work
  • Work from existing or damaged parts when drawings are not available
  • Troubleshoot machining and setup problems
  • Work independently while maintaining a strong focus on quality and safety

Experience in industrial repair machining, one-off parts, shafts, bushings, bearing fits, and similar work is strongly preferred.
