Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position requiring at least 2 years of experience and proficiency with advanced cardiac monitoring in a specialized 10-bed ICU setting.

Responsibilities
  • 10-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) specializing in high-acuity cardiac patients
  • Patient population includes adults to geriatrics requiring advanced cardiac interventions including LVADs, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Swan-Ganz catheters, temporary pacemakers, femoral and venous sheaths, arterial lines, TR bands, and CRRT
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2, with a free charge nurse supporting the unit
  • Unit is staffed with an intensivist Monday–Friday, with multidisciplinary rounds at 10 AM daily
  • Nurses titrate cardiac drips, vasoactive medications, and sedation for intubated patients
  • AAA repair post-procedural care is a common responsibility, requiring close patient monitoring and strict positioning protocols
  • EMR:
    Epic (with Pyxis for medication management)
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted for this position
  • RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the assignment; RTO cannot be requested during the first week
  • Spring Break blackout dates apply:
    April 4–12 (no RTO permitted during this period)
  • Holiday coverage policy: if 1 or 2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler must work 2 and may request 1 holiday off for approval
  • Major holidays include:
    Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
  • No scheduling requests or alternate shifts are permitted — the posted night shift is firm
  • Travelers must have been away from all facilities within this health system for a minimum of 1 full year before returning as a travel nurse
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Effective communication between nurses, physicians, and the care team is essential in this fast-paced environment
Requirements
  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU or cardiovascular ICU nursing experience required
  • Copies of required certifications must be provided for consideration
  • Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) are highly preferred
