Registered Nurse Day Surgery Weekends

Job Summary

Operating Room RN responsible for evaluating patients prior to surgery, providing patient and family education, preparing patients, and supporting surgical teams in a fast‑paced operating room environment.

• Self/preferred scheduling posted four weeks in advance to allow schedule predictability
• Culture of mutual respect and collaboration among all surgical staff
• Continuous investment in equipment to promote patient safety and workflow efficiency
• Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure voice in patient care and workflow improvement
• On‑call required during select non‑business hours
• No travel required

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri‑operative process
• Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols according to hospital policy
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
• Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care while managing evidence‑based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
• Serve as an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – including providers, surgeons, surgical technologists, and others
• Consistently apply nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
• Assess patient condition, monitor throughout shift, and document changes in patient condition along with care provided thoroughly
• Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment, and follow‑up measures

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required within 30 days of employment start date
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of employment start date
• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Associate Degree in Nursing, RN Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
