Position: RN House Supervisor (Columbia County)

Work Shift Day (United States of America)

The RN House Supervisor is a registered professional nurse who provides hospital-wide leadership to all departments and divisions through the effective use of advanced competencies in communication, job knowledge, professionalism, and business skills. The role promotes a center of excellence for staff recruitment, retention, and clinical and business outcomes. The RN House Supervisor serves as a mentor and partner with hospital leaders to meet the hospital’s mission, vision, and goals.

They provide leadership for department supervisors, assistant nurse managers, and charge nurses in the absence of traditional leaders, ensuring safe, quality care through effective communication, observation, and management. They serve as a safety officer, sponsor performance improvement, inspire growth, and act as the standard bearer for teamwork and exemplary skills.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Leadership / Management Effectiveness
  • Promotes the hospital image and maintains a helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community to enhance the hospital’s reputation.
  • Presents self in a positive manner reflected by personal attire and etiquette.
  • Maintains confidentiality of hospital and departmental information.
  • Strives for operational excellence within Nursing Services to ensure delivery of quality nursing services in accordance with policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Responds to day-to-day operational situations within the hospital in an appropriate manner and communicates with staff, visitors, and physicians as necessary to promote a positive outcome.
  • Maintains effective and appropriate staffing as evidenced by ongoing budgetary analysis in interdisciplinary collaboration with departmental leaders.
  • Conducts effective coaching consistent with Human Resources Policies.
  • Maintains contact with Managers to inform about coaching events.
  • Effectively supervises, coordinates, and directs hospital operational functions (e.g., Incident Command and initiating emergency procedures).
  • Promotes and monitors services and programs reviewed by the Chief Nursing Officer and Nursing Services (e.g., Nursing‑driven protocols and hourly rounding).
  • Serves as a role model for all employees, adhering to positive attitudes toward hospital policies, programs, and activities.
  • Assists material management department with provision of patient‑care equipment as needed.
  • Facilitates activities that contribute to patient throughput from Emergency, admission to units through discharge (e.g., direct admissions, EMS).
  • Researches and secures necessary resources to support patient care and site safety.
Communication / Team Work
  • Ensures information is shared for effective operations.
  • Seeks out, understands, listens, and conveys clear information as needed in written and verbal forms.
  • Provides accurate and timely information for shift reports.
  • Implements problem‑solving mechanisms in routine and emergency situations.
  • Investigates and responds appropriately to all complaints and takes effective service‑recovery corrective action when necessary per policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and resolves interpersonal or professional conflicts within the organization.
  • Consistently demonstrates tact, courtesy, and a positive attitude in communications and interactions with employees, visitors, physicians, and the public.
  • Always presents the department and hospital in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to initiate and implement change and communicates problems to appropriate managers or directors as they occur.
Operations Management
  • Leads the On‑Site Command Center, establishing the command center or facilitating emergency response.
  • Implements surge plans as needed.
  • Recognizes patient volume and safety concerns and escalates to appropriate leadership if diversion needs to be considered.
  • Partners with other facilities system‑wide to address operational capacity concerns across Well Star facilities.
  • Manages flow and release of deceased patients.
  • Ensures timely and safe patient care through efficient utilization of products, supplies, and equipment.
  • Responds to hospital‑wide Code calls and facilitates adherence to established protocols (may be involved in Rapid Response calls).
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, or Master’s degree in Nursing, or Master’s degree in Business Administration/Management, or Master’s degree in Health Administration.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
  • RN – Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT – RN – Multi‑state Compact.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support.

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
