The Licensed Practical Nurse provides complex direct nursing care to assigned geriatric patients in a Nursing Care Center and coordinates care as directed by nursing administration.
Responsibilities- Charge Nurse: Serves as Charge Nurse guiding other personnel in direct nursing care; assumes responsibility for a group of patients; participates in patient education, maintains charts, prepares and administers medication, utilizes equipment and supplies; assists in orientation of new employees and serves as preceptor for assigned nurses or students.
- Main Duties: Makes work assignments and monitors performance to ensure compliance with nursing standards; provides comfort and safety for patients; maintains communication with supervisor and physician; seeks assistance when independent action is not possible.
- Patient Vitals: Takes and records vital signs, collects and forwards specimens, implements wound care as prescribed; catheterizes patients as ordered, monitors intake and output, and reports unusual findings to supervisor or physician.
- Patient Nutrition: Performs functions related to proper nutrition and fluid balance, including assisting with meals, tube feedings, and monitoring oral fluid intake.
- Documentation: Provides appropriate documentation of all care provided.
- Programs and Seminars: Attends in‑service programs and seminars as offered.
- Professionalism: Maintains a professional manner with patients, visitors, and staff; reports interpersonal problems to the Nurse Manager and supervisors as necessary.
- Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited LPN program.
- Current, active licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Georgia.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
- Proficiency in practical nursing applications and techniques.
- Experience caring for geriatric patients, preferably in long‑term care.
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates to promote quality care.
- Knowledge:
- Six rights of medication administration
- Basic nursing skills in procedures and treatment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software/database
- Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Abilities:
- Maintain confidentiality
- Work independently and flexibly
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
- Active Georgia licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Shift: Multiple positions available.
- Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications within the established range. - Recruitment Period:

- Credit check required for positions of trust or purchase card usage.
- Motor vehicle report required for positions requiring ownership of an Augusta University vehicle.
- Proof of completed academic degrees and post‑secondary coursework required for faculty hires; foreign‑trained candidates must provide credential evaluation.
