Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Progressive Care Unit position requiring at least 2 years of intermediate-level or PCU experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details
  • Inpatient PCU/Progressive Care Unit within a hospital setting
  • Adult to geriatric patient population with intermediate-level acuity, including diagnoses such as dysrhythmias, CHF, acute-onset stroke (non-TPA), Acute Coronary Syndrome, and Myocardial Ischemia
  • Patients are admitted via direct admission from clinics, physicians' offices, prompt cares, other hospitals, or the emergency department
  • All patients are on hardwire telemetry, self-monitored by the assigned RN
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 on a 12-bed unit
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
  • Weekend block:
    Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; every other weekend
  • Floating required within the facility and scope of practice as needed
  • EMR:
    Epic (preferred);
    Pyxis used for medication dispensing
  • 12-week contract
Requirements
  • Active RN license — GA or compact license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of intermediate-level or PCU experience required
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
  • Skills required:

    IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care and management, peripheral line care and management, and non-invasive airway management
  • Ability to manage cardiac drips (no titration required)
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • PCU, DOU, IMC, stepdown, or telemetry work setting experience required
  • Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) highly preferred for consideration
Additional Information
  • Fast-paced environment with a focus on patient throughput and patient-centered care within a strong team dynamic
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • All RTO must be finalized prior to acceptance of the position; no RTO or schedule requests will be accepted post-offer or after starting on-site
  • RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment; maximum of 7 days RTO per contract
  • Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work 2 (one holiday RTO request may be considered)
  • Major holidays include:
    Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day
  • No alternate shift or schedule requests are permitted; the posted shift is firm
  • Former permanent, per diem, or float pool staff must have been away from all facilities within this health system for at least 1 full year before applying as a traveler
  • Travelers who previously cancelled or received a do-not-return designation must complete one successful assignment outside this health system before reapplying
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
