Overview

Wellstar Health System seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) within the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The APP will provide patient-centered care in ambulatory and inpatient settings as part of a multi-specialty plastic surgery team, including ambulatory management of cosmetic and reconstructive patients, first assist in the operating room, and inpatient rounding on plastic and reconstructive patients.

Responsibilities
  • Practice as a stand-alone provider by managing a weekly clinic schedule.
  • Examine patients and make diagnoses to determine the need for surgery.
  • Review patient medical history and plan the most appropriate procedure in consultation with the physician lead when necessary.
  • Complete all preparatory steps for surgery, including obtaining informed consent, coordinating with clinic schedulers and RNs to schedule surgeries with a pool of surgeons, and providing preoperative education.
  • Perform postoperative visits for select patients at the discretion of the operating surgeon.
  • Perform ambulatory procedures for a variety of surgical diagnoses, including wound care, cosmetics, and other excisional biopsies.
  • First assist in the operating room.
  • Promote activities and programs for the Plastics clinic and provide appropriate educational materials.
  • Qualifications

    Nurse Practitioner (NP) track: Master’s Degree in Nursing. Certified as an NP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent, or currently licensed as an advanced practice nurse in Georgia. Certification in an Advanced Configuration area if required. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Fully credentialed by the credentialing office to work.

    Physician’s Assistant (PA) track: Graduation from an accredited PA program. Certified as a PA by the NCCPA. Licensure to practice medicine through the Georgia Composite Medical Board. Maintain certification status including continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification. Advanced Certification in the specialized area if required. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Fully credentialed by the credentialing office to work.
