The Research Associate will be mainly in charge of carrying out Drosophila health and longevity experiments, while maintaining basic day-to-day operations in the lab. The Research Associate will supervise undergraduate workers and volunteers in the lab. There is also the opportunity to complete molecular biology experiments including PCR, qPCR, and Western blotting, as well as analyze data.
Responsibilities- Drosophila husbandry, media production, and stock maintenance.
- Supervise undergraduate students on their Drosophila health projects.
- Longevity, stress assays, and health assays.
- PCR, qPCR, Western blotting.
- Analysis of experimental data collected in R.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area and experience in research or clinical laboratory work.
- OR Bachelor's degree in the same fields with a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.
Master's degree in biology or related field and experience in molecular biology and statistical analyses is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Basic understanding of laboratory techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High level of organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Highly motivated.
Shift: Days;
Monday - Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required).
Salary Minimum: $45,400 annually. Pay Band: B8. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
