Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience & Regenerative Medicine (DNRM) at the Medical College of Georgia! The mission of the department is to promote multidisciplinary research and teaching excellence in both biomedical and clinical sciences. The department was founded in 1993 as the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics. We seek to attract outstanding faculty and bright students by creating a welcoming, collegial, and collaborative environment to foster success and creativity.

Our faculty’s research focuses on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, brain injury, learning and memory, neuroprotection, development, inflammation, and regenerative medicine, using a broad repertoire of experimental approaches. Our department is also the home of the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, supported by the Georgia Research Alliance.

Job Summary

Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Execute complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, and statistical/computational procedures. Generate novel rodent models using transgenic, gene targeting, CRISPR, and assisted reproductive technologies, and perform genotyping and phenotyping analyses.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols.
  • Breed, genotype, and maintain mouse and rat colonies.
  • Prepare staged embryos or gametes for manipulation, introduce genetic modifications using appropriate methods, and transfer manipulated or VF‑derived embryos into recipients. Support cohort generation and preservation using assisted reproductive technologies.
  • Maintain familiarity with current advances in transgenic and assisted reproductive technologies and literature, and apply such knowledge toward development of new or improved technologies.
  • Design routine experiments and/or processes; consistently follow and critically evaluate appropriate methods and protocols. Independently implement experimental design and/or processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area, and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area, and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.
