Job SummaryA training position designed to learn through engagement in advanced scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts. Responsibilities include data collection and documentation, development of new research techniques, publication of results, and performing varied chemical, biological, microscopic, histologic, surgical, and statistical/computational procedures.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques; present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
- Study signaling mechanisms underlying cell-to-cell communication in the brain using patch‑clamp electrophysiology, live confocal imaging, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and 3D cell reconstruction.
- Compose articles for publication in scientific journals.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel; advise the principal investigator, postdocs, and other personnel on research techniques.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer‑linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred QualificationsFocus on cardiovascular diseases and neurodegeneration, including hypertension, heart failure, and Alzheimer’s disease. Research of cardiovascular risk factors influencing neurovascular outcomes through various animal models.
Preferred ExperienceExperience (preferred but not mandatory) with molecular biology, microcirculation, patch‑clamp electrophysiology, in vivo two‑photon imaging, live confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, RNA‑seq, and rodent surgeries.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Compensation & BenefitsShift: Days, Monday–Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required). Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Benefits for full‑time employees include health, dental, and life insurance; optional retirement plans; earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Tuition Assistance Program available after six months of employment.
