Research Assistant MCG-Immunology Center of GA

Job Summary

A full‑time research position is available. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists investigating the mechanisms underlying vascular diseases including atherosclerosis and aneurysm. The position involves performing complex cellular and molecular biology experiments, as well as animal tissue preparation. The position will perform cell culture, real‑time PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, histological studies, and accurately record and analyze results.

The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will assemble teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development, and will be co‑directed by world‑class immunologists Drs. Catherine Lynn Hedrick and Klaus Ley. The center will produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States.

The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease, and cancer.

• Gene expression analysis by Western blot and qRT-PCR, Gel electrophoresis, Cell culture, gene silence and over-expression, Plasmid and adenovirus amplification, Histology analysis, Flow cytometry.
• Mouse microsurgery;
  Collect blood and tissue samples from mice.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting.
OR
• Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemical, biological, biochemistry, cell biology, or related fields and a minimum of three years’ experience in a research or clinical area.

Some previous experience with social/behavioral science (public health) research is desirable.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and critical‑thinking skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgement and work independently.

Shift: Days;
Monday–Friday (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required).

Pay Band: B5

Salary: $17.88–$21.92 per hour, commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range.
