Job SummaryThis position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. The responsibilities include ensuring research protocols are followed, safety guidelines are observed, laboratory resources are managed, and teaching and technical oversight is provided to trainees and research staff. The successful candidate will join a NIH‑funded project (PI, Dr. Fan Fan) investigating how genetic‑based microvascular dysfunction in aging, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity contributes to end‑organ damage, including vascular cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD), and renal disease.
Responsibilities- Lab Management
:
Coordinates research activities in the lab and instructs research staff and students; advises regarding research techniques. - Animal Management
:
Coordinates administrative and technical arrangements of animal models, maintains records, performs colony maintenance and surgical procedures (e.g., injections, gavage, euthanasia), and assists PI with animal protocol preparation and submission. - Experiments
:
Performs complex data analysis to produce research results, prepares findings for future development, develops new studies in coordination with the PI, plans research protocols, controls execution by lab staff, and analyzes data to prepare publication‑ready figures. - Fiscal Management
:
Participates in tracking and monitoring budgetary resources, interfaces with vendors and administration regarding orders and invoices/payments. - Safety and Compliance
:
Uses independent judgment to ensure safe and efficient use of resources, monitors compliance with federal guidelines and institutional protocols. - Grant Development
:
Assists PI with data preparation for grant applications and renewals, and participates in composition, editing, and publication of research findings. - Other
:
Performs other duties incidental to work described herein.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area; experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory (particularly clinical trial research).
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area; a minimum of three years’ research and/or clinical experience and previous supervisory experience.

:
Background in biology, chemistry, and/or biochemistry; proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. - Skills
:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; detail‑oriented. - Abilities
:
Ability to maintain confidentiality; work independently with general supervision; prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; work with research animals.
- Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required).
- Salary Range: $45,400‑$56,700 annually.
