The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University conducts cardiovascular research to address rising obesity and diabetes and related diseases. Job SummaryManage a moderate-sized mouse colony comprising about 10 unique strains. Responsibilities include mouse breeding, PCR-based genotyping, tissue isolations, careful record keeping, and database management. The role includes directing postdocs and students with their own mouse studies and assisting in cell culture and molecular biology assays (e.g., Western blotting, qRT-PCR).
Responsibilities- Mouse colony maintenance, genotyping, and inventory updates.
- PCR, gel electrophoresis, and documentation of gels with accurate labeling and notebook upkeep.
- Euthanasia of mice to maintain census; timing matings for embryo collection when needed.
- Tamoxifen administration for specific strains used in conditional gene deletion or reporter activation in fluorescence microscopy.
- Assist in cell culture and Western blot; perform frozen sectioning and immunostaining.
- Assist postdocs and students with experimental mice, including genotyping, euthanasia, qRT-PCR, and immunostaining of tissue sections.
- Genotype downstream applications of mouse tissue harvesting (Western blotting, qRT-PCR, immunostaining).
- Develop new PCR protocols and genotyping schematics for training purposes.
- Cross-coverage, ordering, and general lab maintenance as needed.
- Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field, with experience in research, basic science, or a clinical setting, including clinical trials research; minimum of two years of applicable experience.
- Preferred: Strong experience in mouse work (surgery, tissue isolation, physiology measurements such as ultrasound and blood pressure) and/or a background in molecular biology.
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software or willingness to learn; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; detail-oriented with strong multitasking, problem solving, prioritization, and organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines; ability to work independently with general supervision; energetic, goal-oriented self-starter; willingness to work with research animals; highly motivated with a strong work ethic and desire to learn.

Shift: Days;
Monday - Friday (work outside normal hours may be required).
Salary: $18.85-$22.11 per hour. Pay Band: B6. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (minimum-midpoint).
