Job Summary
A full-time research position is available in the Poltorak Lab. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists investigating inflammation as a defense reaction caused by tissue damage or injury, specifically in atherosclerosis. The research involves work with both mouse and human samples, molecular biology, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, cell sorting, and high-throughput next-generation sequencing technologies (RNA-Seq, BD Rhapsody, 10X Genomics).
The candidate will support the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. We seek a candidate who is diligent, motivated, and has an exceptional level of organization, record-keeping, and time management skills.
Responsibilities- Maintaining mouse colony, including breeding, weaning, and genotyping of mice. Mouse microsurgery. Acquiring blood and tissue samples from mice.
- RNA-sequencing (10X, BD Rhapsody), flow cytometry, human blood work, gel electrophoresis, and Bone Marrow Transplantation.
- Maintaining inventory and organization of lab equipment and supplies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related natural, life, health care, or materials science relevant to the research area, and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory work (clinical trial research).
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field and a minimum of three years research and/or clinical experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Abilities: Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift: Days;
Monday - Friday (work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $45,400 - $55,000 annually. Pay Band: B8. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
