This position is a training position designed to provide advanced scientific, technical, and administrative experience in Dr. Abais‑Battad’s research lab in the Department of Physiology. The incumbent will conduct and document research, develop and evaluate techniques, perform biological, microscopic, surgical and computational procedures, design projects, present at conferences, and write manuscripts. The PI will provide training for independent research and grant writing.
Responsibilities- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols; carry out experiments ensuring compliance with scientific principles and federal guidelines.
- Analyze experimental results using manual or computer techniques; develop computer programs if needed; teach and participate in bacteriological, chemical, radio‑chemical, serological, histologic, and cell culture procedures.
- Coordinate literature research, summarize findings, develop applications; present at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally; compose articles for publication and review; submit grant applications.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel; advise the PI, postdocs, students and others on techniques and protocols.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer‑linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other scientific equipment; instruct others in equipment operation.
- Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working in a formal research setting.
- Experience with molecular, genetic and/or physiological measurement techniques.
- Background in cardiovascular physiology, pharmacology or biochemistry; proficiency in rodent handling and surgical techniques.
- Experience with genetic analyses such as RNA sequencing, lipid biology and mass spectrometry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software; willingness to learn new applications.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Basic laboratory skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision and meet deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to work with hazardous chemicals, research animals, and animal/human tissues.
- Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required). - Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum‑midpoint). - Benefits:
