College / Department InformationThe Medical College of Georgia Department of Physiology focuses on the cellular and organ systems that underpin health and disease. The department conducts federally funded research in cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and related topics, and offers PhD programs that prepare scholars for careers in academia, industry, and government.
Job SummaryThis position provides administrative and technical oversight for a research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include ensuring research protocols and safety guidelines are followed; managing laboratory resources; providing teaching and technical oversight to students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians; processing data and presenting findings; and assisting the Principal Investigator with studies and research applications.
Responsibilities- Perform complex experiments and data analysis, and prepare findings for future development.
- Provide daily oversight and supervision of students, post‑docs, and technicians to ensure protocol compliance; assist in developing new lab techniques and troubleshooting.
- Maintain supply inventory and chemical database; create and update EH&S and LAS protocols; oversee lab inspections.
- Coordinate administrative and technical arrangements for animal models and maintain related records.
- Use independent judgment to ensure safe and efficient use of resources; monitor compliance with federal and institutional guidelines.
- Track and monitor budgetary resources, including purchase requests, invoices, and budget reconciliation.
- Develop and manage the quality assurance plan for research initiatives.
- Aid in preparation of professional papers and assist PI with grant data preparation and renewals.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. from an accredited institution with a minimum of one year of experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory work, particularly clinical trial research.
- OR Master’s degree from an accredited institution in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related fields with a minimum of five years’ experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory work, particularly clinical trial research.
- OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related fields with a minimum of eight years’ experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory work, particularly clinical trial research.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Extensive experience in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry; proven ability to design and conduct complex experiments and perform data analysis.
- Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases, or willingness to learn.
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; detail‑oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Abilities: Maintain confidentiality; work independently and collaboratively; complete work and meet deadlines; highly motivated for productivity and publication; work with rodent animal models.
Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday (work outside of standard hours may be required). Pay band B12. Salary range: $62,300 – $79,400 annually, commensurate with qualifications. Position is fully funded through external sources; continued employment depends on availability of funds. Recruitment until filled.
