The Medical College of Georgia Department of Physiology focuses on the framework of the body s cells, organs, and systems, how they work, and how abnormal function leads to disease. The department offers programs leading to the PhD degree and trains researchers for positions in medical schools, universities, government, and industry.

Job Summary

This position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring research protocols are followed and safety guidelines are observed in accordance with institutional and government regulations.
  • Management of laboratory resources and providing teaching and technical oversight to trainees and research staff.
  • Processing data, presenting findings, and assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) with current and future research applications and programs of study.
  • Coordinating administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintaining records related to use.

The successful candidate will join an NIH-funded project (PI: Dr. Fan Fan) to investigate how genetic-based microvascular dysfunction in aging, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity contributes to end-organ damage, including vascular cognitive impairment, Alzheimer s disease and related dementias, and renal disease. The lab also studies actin cytoskeleton changes in vascular cells and podocytes related to cerebral and renal circulation and glomerular function.

Responsibilities
  • Lab Management
    :
    Coordinate research activities in the lab and instruct research staff and students; advise regarding research techniques.
  • Animal Management
    :
    Coordinate administrative and technical arrangements of animal models; maintain records; perform animal colony maintenance and surgical procedures (injections, gavage, euthanasia); assist PI with animal protocols preparation and submission.
  • Experiments
    :
    Perform complex data analysis; develop new studies in coordination with the PI; plan research protocols and ensure proper execution; analyze data and prepare publication-ready figures.
  • Fiscal Management
    :
    Track and monitor budget resources; interface with vendors and administration regarding orders and invoices/payments.
  • Safety and Compliance
    :
    Use independent judgment to ensure safe and efficient use of resources; monitor resource use for compliance with federal guidelines and institutional protocols.
  • Grant Development
    :
    Assist PI with data preparation for grant applications and renewals; participate in composing, editing, and publication of findings.
  • Other
    :
    Perform other duties incidental to the work described herein.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    :
    Master s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related field with research experience, or a Bachelor s degree with a minimum of three years  research/clinical experience and supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge
    :
    Background in biology, chemistry, and/or biochemistry; proficient in Microsoft Office and related software/databases.

Shift, Salary, & Benefits

Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (possible work outside normal hours). Salary Range: $45,400 - $56,700 annually. Pay Band: B8; salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range (minimum to midpoint).
