Recreation Assistant; Range Operations NF

Summary

This position is located at Recreational Shooting Complex on Fort Benning with Family & Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR).

Incentives and bonuses will not be paid.

Bi‑weekly cut‑offs begin on 20 May 2026.

U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. who have resided in the U.S. or a U.S. territory for at least three (3) continuous years immediately preceding the start of federal affiliation.

• Execute range facility opening, closing, and operating procedures in accordance with installation, local, and federal laws, and maintain communications with the installation range control agency to ensure safe operations.
• Coordinate medical support through the installation range control agency, instruct patrons on range safety practices, and provide general firearm and marksmanship information.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, accountability, inventory of ammunition, and vault security. Issue ammunition and range‑related accessories to customers, check , and collect fees. Check inventory and supplies, and request restock.
• Perform cashier duties, maintain sales records, conduct facility and range maintenance, circulate among patrons to assure satisfactory service, and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
• Receive and resolve customer complaints, direct patrons, schedule use of ranges, conduct briefings, monitor patrons, coordinate leagues, competition, and group functions, and perform other duties as assigned.

• Complete pre‑employment background checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, including a Tier 1 background investigation.
• Be able to lift up to 45 pounds without assistance and heavier loads with assistance.
• Meet age requirements for handling firearms; position covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
• Statutory Testing Designated Position (TDP): negative drug test required prior to appointment and subsequent random drug tests as required.
• Provide direct deposit information and a Social Security Card.
• Meet all qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for this position.
• May be subject to a one‑year probationary period.
• Complete an Employment Verification (E‑Verify) check.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (visit (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
• Work hours may involve weekends, weekdays, holidays, and night duty.

• Must have experience with firing‑range operations and firearm safety, and have dealt with the general public.
• May have cashier skills.
• Must be able to obtain current Installation Range Certification Card, National Rifle Association (NRA) Range Safety Officer Certification, or an equivalent certification within 60 days of entrance on duty.

This position does not have an education qualification requirement.
