Job Summary
Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models. Performs drug treatment and behavioral testing on mice. Develops hypotheses and experimental protocols. Handles standardized protocols for collecting mouse specimens, preparing samples for histology and molecular/biochemical analysis, stereotactic surgery, and other complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational, and dissection procedures. Manages the transgenic mouse colony and performs small animal surgical and behavioral procedures.
Identifies and implements experimental and analytical pipeline improvements. Contributes to manuscript and grant preparation by providing figures, methods, and technical expertise.
- Conduct research on Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the microbiome using transgenic mouse models.
- Perform drug treatments and behavioral tests on mice.
- Develop hypotheses and experimental protocols, and execute standardized protocols for specimen collection and sample preparation.
- Perform stereotactic surgery and other complex procedures.
- Manage the transgenic mouse colony and perform small animal surgical and behavioral procedures.
- Identify and implement experimental and analytical pipeline improvements and refinements.
- Prepare and submit research papers; contribute to manuscript and grant preparation with figures, methods, and technical expertise.
- Mentor junior lab members and promote a collaborative, high-performance lab culture.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area, plus a minimum of two years of applicable experience in research, basic science, or a clinical setting, particularly clinical trials research.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B6 – Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum to midpoint).
This position is fully funded through external sources; continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
