Job SummaryProvide support to all teaching laboratories by preparing equipment, supplies, and reagents; ordering from outside vendors, overseeing inventories and maintenance; and ensuring biological and hazardous wastes are disposed according to proper procedures.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and support laboratory operations with faculty and student laboratory assistants.
- Assist faculty in training student laboratory assistants on procedures for reagent preparation, waste disposal, and laboratory safety.
- Maintain the stockroom in an organized manner and keep an adequate inventory of routinely used chemicals and expendable supplies.
- Provide routine service for microscopes and other equipment.
- Create and oversee work orders related to repairs of departmental equipment and infrastructure.
- Maintain inventory asset controls for designated departmental property and equipment.
- Serve as Chemical and Biological Safety Officer for the department, ensuring proper guidelines for storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals and waste are followed.
- Coordinate the collection and removal of hazardous waste in the department with the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator.
- Collect biannual chemical inventory updates of labs conducted by faculty.
- Acquire and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for all newly purchased chemicals.
- Conduct research on items to be purchased, maintain vendor relationships to obtain quotes and best prices, and ensure accurate orders.
- Work with faculty to determine needs and make purchases of equipment, chemicals, specimens, and other lab supplies.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or another natural, life, health care, or materials science directly related field.
- One year of applicable experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with modern biological laboratory and field techniques.
- Maintain confidentiality, be highly motivated, and work well with faculty and students.
- Proficient in modern laboratory and field research techniques including chemical and biological safety.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
Shift: Days, Monday through Friday.
Pay Band: B6.
Salary: $18.85–$20.19 hourly, commensurate with qualifications.
