About the Role

Job Summary:

Performs various security related duties to ensure the safety of hospital patients, visitors and staff. Responds to all incidents of disruptive/assaultive individuals, investigates reports of suspicious activity and performs customer service functions as described by policy/procedures. Armed Security Officers will perform facility and grounds patrols and inspections. Officers will report their daily activities in a log and/or incident reports; and conduct other duties assigned by the Security Supervisor.

    Valid GA Driver's License and current BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Educational Requirements:

    High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum Experience:

    Military, police, corrections, private security background (minimum of two (2) years experience required).

  • Managing aggressive patients (CIT) – de‑escalation training, ASP tactical baton training, firearms training, hospital defensive tactics training, basic taser training.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Make routine and random tours of the facility and grounds using established patrolling techniques and report all findings.
  • Perform lighting surveys of campus and buildings; identify all hazardous conditions and situations requiring maintenance; maintain the aesthetic image of the facility.
  • Initiate investigations on security or risk‑management incidents and report findings daily to supervisor and coordinator.
  • Report accidents (pedestrian or vehicle) and injuries, thefts, disturbances, complaints; participate in training drills and document each completion according to NGHS policy/procedure pursuant to JCAHO, OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct fire drills, fire safety/response training; bomb threat drills, response/search drills; infant/child abduction drills and education; workplace violence drills and education; theft prevention/personal safety education.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled; be timely and actively participate.
  • Maintain minimum score of 80% with a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 semi‑auto pistol sidearm certification in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Clean and maintain weapon in an operational manner; ensure it is of the type specified by departmental policy; manage hospital‑issued .40 caliber ammunition.
  • Complete a minimum of 16 hours of professional training annually, document proof, and obtain professional or manufacturer certification for all defensive tools and equipment used.
  • Assist newer officers in evaluating strengths and weaknesses in performance of tasks; independently seek and obtain training on own and present documented proof.
  • Respond promptly when assistance is requested; unlock/lock doors; provide motor vehicle assistance (jump starts, lost keys, flat tires); escort funds and safety escorts to parking lots; address all public concerns; negotiate and gain cooperation from the hospital public to maintain policies and defuse confrontation when possible.
  • Solicit, encourage, and answer questions from the public while demonstrating a positive willingness to assist.
  • Maintain accuracy and accountability when handling funds, valuables and items of property; manage time wisely; prioritize calls and share workloads to ensure timely completion of tasks.
