Security Manager
Overview
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks a Security Sergeant for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The Security Sergeant reports to a Security Lieutenant and supervises a team of Security Officers, Community Services Officers, and Executive Drivers. The role includes conducting security inspections, patrolling, administrative duties, and providing supervisory oversight during events.
Responsibilities- Provide field level supervision during regular operations and events, support and train subordinates, address performance and uniform issues, and conduct disciplinary actions as assigned.
- Issue verbal warnings and recommend progressive discipline to Security Lieutenant.
- Conduct post, field, and security inspections.
- Perform patrol duties (patrolling, parking enforcement, fixed post coverage, escorts, jumpstarts, building lockups).
- Assist with administrative tasks such as payroll, timekeeping, special projects, and reviewing patrol sheets, logbooks, vehicle and building check sheets, inspection sheets, and operations sheets.
- Represent the division in public safety meetings in the absence of a Security Lieutenant or superior officer.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating understanding of security and/or public safety.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to complete Rutgers Defensive Driving course.
- Good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Certification in basic first aid, CPR, and AED.
- University setting experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license; must complete Rutgers Defensive Driving course.
- Safe driving record required.

Grade 03. Minimum Salary: $52,602.48. Mid‑Range Salary: $64,788.98. Maximum Salary: $76,975.48.
