JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s Degree, and/or related certification are preferred.

Certification or Licensure

Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Demonstrated knowledge of the National Electrical Code and electrical safety practices are required. Journeyman or Master Electrician’s License are preferred.

Skills

Ability to read blueprints and schematics. Interpret electrical codes. Knowledge of electrical testing equipment and tools and how to use each. Must know how to troubleshoot electrical and electronic controls and repair such. Must possess leadership ability to direct skilled workers and good interpersonal skills.

Work Experience

Seven years’ experience in commercial or institutional electrical work is required. Three years of supervisory or lead experience is required. Experience working in K-12 or public-sector facilities is preferred. Experience with emergency power systems and inspections is preferred.

PRIMARY DUTY

This position is responsible for the supervision and coordination of electrical maintenance and repair activities across all district facilities. This position ensures the safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation of electrical power systems, including normal and emergency power. The Electrical Foreman provides technical leadership to electricians, oversees electrical contractors, and serves as the district’s authority for electrical code compliance and inspections.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with other Foremen, Assistant Directors and Director of Maintenance in planning electrical responsibilities. Recommends solutions for solving electrical problems, prioritizes job requests, keeps records and gives status reports.
  • Supervises, schedules and evaluates the work of district electricians.
  • Assigns work orders and prioritizes routine maintenance, corrective repairs, and emergency responses.
  • Ensures electrical systems comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), local amendments, and district standards.
  • Oversees the maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems including switch gear, panel boards, feeders, lighting systems, generators, and ATS.
  • Enforces safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc-flash safety, and job hazard analysis.
  • Serves as the district point of contact for electrical inspections and coordinates corrective actions.
  • Plans and coordinates electrical outages to minimize disruption to instructional activities.
  • Coordinates electrical work with the Electronics Foreman.
  • Oversees and evaluates work performed by outside electrical contractors.
  • Ensures accurate completion of work orders and maintenance documentation.
  • Maintains records related to electrical systems, inspections, and compliance.
  • Respond to after-hours electrical emergencies as required.
  • Ensures proper equipment is available and used for the protection and safety of staff.
  • The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned, or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law, board policy, administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to electrical hazards and varying environmental conditions. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit.
