Public Works

Public Works Employees are responsible for maintaining and improving community infrastructure, ensuring public facilities are safe and functional, and performing a variety of tasks related to public services.

• Maintenance and Repair:
  Perform maintenance tasks for public buildings, roads, parks, and other structures. This includes patching roads, mowing city rights-of-way, and repairing water and sewer lines.
• Equipment Operation:
  Operate various types of maintenance and construction equipment, such as dump trucks and backhoes.
• Public Safety:
  Ensure that all public facilities are safe for community members and report any hazards or needed repairs to supervisors.
• Physical Labor:
  Engage in physical tasks that may include lifting heavy objects, working in various weather conditions, and performing repetitive tasks.
• Collaboration:
  
  Work as part of a team or independently to complete assigned projects and interact with the public in a professional manner.
• Outdoor and Indoor Settings:
  Employees may work in various environments, including outdoors in inclement weather and indoors in maintenance facilities.
• Physical Demands:
  The job requires physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and operating heavy machinery.

• Experience:
  
  Previous experience in public works or maintenance is often preferred but not always required. Training may be provided.
• Skills:
  
  Knowledge of safety practices, ability to operate heavy equipment, and basic mechanical skills are beneficial.
• Physical Capability:
  Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various environmental conditions.
