About the Job

This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of stormwater lines and related infrastructure. The incumbent performs labor-intensive tasks such as installing and maintaining storm water infrastructure and drainage systems in the County. The role reports to a Supervisor or a Foreman.

The work involves operating heavy machinery and providing functional supervision over senior utility service workers and other utility service workers. Work is performed outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather, and includes exposure to noise, dirt, dust, and hazardous machinery.

Tasks include:

• Maintaining drainage systems: pulling ditches, cutting drainage ditches off roads, stabilizing drainage ditches with matting or rip rap, removing obstructions from drainage culverts and storm drains, cleaning pipe lines with a vac‑truck.
• Performing equipment maintenance such as changing blades, tires, oil, filters, etc.
• Removing overgrowth obstructing weeds in drainage corridors, including the spraying of chemicals around mailboxes to eliminate weeds.
• Repairing and maintaining pipes, culverts, storm boxes.
• Pouring cement used in curbing, traps, and patching cracks.
• Driving and performing general maintenance on trucks used for delivering materials, etc.
• Performing other related duties as assigned and available for on‑call duties.

Applicants must read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a high‑school or equivalent level. No prior experience is required for basic tasks of the position.

Applicants must either possess or be able to readily obtain a valid commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the required class of vehicles or equipment.

• Knowledge of county policies and procedures related to road maintenance and improvement.
• Knowledge of maintaining grade, drainage, and proper compaction.
• Knowledge of construction principles.
• Skill in operating heavy equipment such as front‑end loaders, pulverizers, bulldozers, and backhoes.
• Skill in masonry.
• Skill in spraying chemical herbicides.
• Skill in stenciling.
• Skill in using equipment such as chainsaws, augers, and jackhammers.
• Skill in dealing with the public.

As a desirable qualification, strong written and mathematical abilities at a high‑school level or equivalent and a valid commercial driver’s license may be substituted for minimum requirements. Prior experience with stormwater maintenance is a plus but not mandatory.
