Maintenance/Construction Technician II (S) – North Carolina Zoo

The North Carolina Zoo is expanding. We are seeking a self‑motivated Plumber Assistant for our Preventative Maintenance and Electrical (PME) sections, focusing on plumbing, electrical and HVAC tasks.

• Perform a variety of semiskilled tasks with a primary focus on plumbing repairs and installation, including preventative maintenance duties on pump stations (lubrication, strainers, valves).
• Assist electricians with running conduit, pulling wire, repairing lights, and other electrical tasks.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and repair duties for HVAC (filters, coil cleaning, lubrication, etc.).
• Carry out general park maintenance activities and may be reassigned to other trade groups (general maintenance, caging, etc.).
• Use a computer for work order processing, time entries, performance evaluations, and product research.

• High school diploma or GED.
• One (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s license issued from within the United States.
• Must be physically able to work in adverse weather, on weekends/holidays, and in confined spaces.
• Pass a pre‑employment screen conducted by an assigned provider.

• Demonstrated experience in plumbing repairs and installation.
• Experience with preventative maintenance on pump stations (lubrication, strainers, valves).
• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Basic HVAC knowledge.
