Job Summary

Applies paint, varnishes, stains, and other coatings to interior or exterior surfaces with brush, roller or other tools. Prepares surfaces for painting by removing old paint and filled materials, matches colors, and may prepare estimates of work time and cost. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and typically 3 years of related experience. Needs to complete apprenticeship or formal training in the specialty area.

Responsibilities
  • Repairs and prepares surfaces to be painted using appropriate materials and methods.
  • Protects surrounding areas by utilizing necessary measures.
  • Sets up and operates equipment needed to reach high areas.
  • Mixes paint and other finishes using power or hand mixers.
  • Applies paints and other finishes to interior surfaces, exterior surfaces, equipment, and furniture using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Restores the work area to a clean and safe environment and returns furniture and other items to their appropriate places.
  • Requests needed equipment and supplies to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Coordinates paint jobs with co‑workers and individuals whose workspace will be affected.
  • Enters information into the Work Order management system as required.
  • May be responsible for training, assisting, or assigning tasks to lower‑level Painters.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor or university leadership.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED with 3 years’ experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience in standard interior and exterior painting practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Detail‑oriented.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Shift / Salary / Benefits

Day shift, Monday‑Friday;
Pay Band 5;
Salary $17.88‑$18.85 per hour; benefits include health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees eligible for Tuition Assistance after 6 months of employment.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates must successfully pass a Background Check prior to starting. A credit check may be required for positions of trust or background check for vehicle use if applicable. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. Employees are responsible for maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and cybersecurity policies during and after employment.
