Maintenance Supervisor

Summary

Incumbent works as the supervisor over the HVAC/Pipe fitting Shop – Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Shops within the Facilities Management Service for the Augusta VA Health Care System in Augusta, GA. The incumbent reports to the M&O Supervisor overseeing the Building Maintenance – HVAC/Pipe fitting & Renovation Team Shops. There are two HVAC/Pipe fitting supervisors – Uptown and Downtown.

To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date 06/29/2026.

Experience:

A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must provide evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Screen‑out element:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen‑out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. Those who meet at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; the rest are eliminated.

The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the job elements:
Equipment assembly, installation, repair; interpretation of instructions and specifications (including blueprint reading); leadership or supervision of materials; measuring instruments; technical practices; use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs such as Peace Corps or Ameri Corps, is credited toward qualifications.

Duties are sedentary in nature with occasional walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and reaching as required.

Work setting involves minimal risks and discomforts but does not require the normal safety precautions typical of an office setting. The incumbent may receive irregular exposure to communicable diseases, abusive behavior, or outdoor weather conditions.

• Perform all station‑level preventative maintenance to heating and cooling equipment, kitchen equipment, and other facility areas.
• Makes necessary contacts for coordination and to gather additional information regarding preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
• Prepares cost estimates, obtains quotes, orders materials, parts, and equipment required for preventative maintenance.
• Performs and reviews work in trades such as pipe fitting, HVAC, sheet metal forming, plumbing, and refrigeration.
• Conducts periodic inspections of work in progress and completed work to determine immediate and long‑range needs.
• Coordinates Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRAs) with safety and post‑signed documents prior to installations, repairs, and maintenance work.
• Performs Contracting Officer Representative duties, including developing contract packages, statements of work, and obtaining quotes for services or parts and materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
