Location: North Augusta

The Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians role is to support the Water Utility with installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and instrumentation equipment in various settings, including water/wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and other utility facilities. This position will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and instrumentation equipment. This role involves working with a range of instruments, including electrical, SCADA, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, VFD and mechanical instruments used for measurement and control.

The position typically requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, and crouching. The position also requires the frequent lifting of light (less than 25 pounds) and occasionally heavy (more than 25 pounds) objects. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and the incumbent may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery, cold, and inclement weather. The job requires the use of safety devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

The position also requires performing duties in potentially hazardous situations. The position also will require on call and overtime duties that include weekends, nights or holidays as needed.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • This position will perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with electrical, SCADA and instrumentation systems, ensuring timely and effective repairs.
  • Calibrate instruments (lab and filter turbidity units) to ensure accurate measurement and control.
  • Maintenance and preventative maintenance activities include, but are not limited to:
    Instruments and analyzers, valves, actuators, pumps, motors compressors, generators, and flow meters.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new instrumentation systems, SCADA and upgrades to existing systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Operate a variety of test equipment and use small hand tools in the maintenance and repair of electronic and related equipment and systems.
  • Order and maintain inventory control of parts and materials.
  • Understand safety requirements of confined space entry.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and safety standards.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • On-call availability for emergencies
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in working with a variety of instruments, including electrical, SCADA, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, VFD and mechanical devices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to electrical and instrumentation work.
  • A Georgia Low Voltage Contractors License is preferred but not required
DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Sufficient previous experience with the ability to understand the basic principles related to the responsibilities of the position are required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance and repair is required. If hired, applicant will be required to complete a 6 month probationary period. Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license.

Training in PLC ladder logic programming and troubleshooting techniques for control systems is preferred. Training on cybersecurity practices related to industrial control systems is also preferred, as these systems are increasingly integrated with OT networks. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
