This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing all aspects of vehicles and equipment maintained by Fleet Services, including but not limited to: sedans, light to heavy-duty trucks, dump trucks, tractors, mowers, fire apparatus, and other light to heavy equipment. The position requires the ability to work in various positions, including sitting, crouching, standing and bending, for prolong periods. This position requires the technician to use computer based work repair manuals and work order systems.
PRINCIPALACCOUNTABILITIES
- Responsibilities of this position include the ability to maintain and repair various makes and models of vehicles and equipment.
- The technician will also be required to test and evaluate critical systems, including brakes, tires, lights, etc., and document their condition.
- The technician will also be responsible for the verification of repairs, including test driving repaired vehicles to increase customer satisfaction and safety.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of all systems of automobiles and equipment. These systems include but are not limited to: brakes, suspension, electrical, engine and drive trains.
- Proficient with diagnostic equipment and various types of automotive lifts and hoists.
- Requires some welding and metal working skill as it relates to vehicle repair.
- Available to work short notice overtime and emergency on-call shifts as needed.
- Willing to continue training as required. This training includes but is not limited to local classroom style training, manufacture based conferences as well as online training.
- Ability to read, write and do basic math equations as those skills relate to service manuals, work orders and general automotive maintenance and repair.
A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required. Secondary and/or post-secondary training is desired but not required for this position. On-the-job training or apprentice/internship will be required if applicant does not have formal secondary/post-secondary training. A (6) month probationary period with the ability to obtain a Class 4 Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within that 6 month probationary period is required.
This position also requires the technician to own necessary tools to perform assigned tasks.
A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
