The Logistics Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing transportation activities to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of materials. While primarily assigned to the Aurubis Richmond site, this role may support dispatching operations across all Aurubis locations. Key responsibilities include order processing; securing and organizing freight capacity; selecting appropriate transportation modes based on operational and loading/unloading requirements; tracking delivery deadlines;

resolving invoice discrepancies; managing customs clearance and claims; identifying inefficiencies in transport management; and supporting the development and implementation of group-wide logistics IT systems, processes, and change initiatives, with a primary focus on the Aurubis Richmond operation.

Your Tasks
  • Schedule transport to ensure on-time delivery, including order processing, provision and organization of freight space, and selection of appropriate modes of transportation.
  • Track deadlines, coordinate in-house loading/unloading, and schedule transport orders accordingly.
  • Process and check order confirmations according to internal and external standards.
  • Monitor inbound and outbound delivery dates and secure freight space with consideration of economic factors.
  • Proactively communicate delivery date changes to customers.
  • Coordinate customs clearance (plausibility check, warranty, legal compliance, and audit security) and ensure compliance with dangerous goods legislation.
  • Identify potentials for risk minimization in transport management.
  • Check invoices that deviate from the purchase order and obtain all necessary documents for import/export processing.
  • Provide active knowledge transfer to colleagues and support logistics projects and lessons learned.
  • Communicate with suppliers and respective departments; implement measures to improve delivery performance and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Process claims and review the performance of forwarders; support carrier feedback/audits.
  • Support the Group logistics team in the design of new IT systems and processes as well as change requests.
  • Establish and maintain communications between all stakeholders (internal and external); consult with authorities regarding customs clearance.
  • Work with logistics, customer service, sampling, and production departments; identify, research, analyze, and resolve issues with extensive internal/external contact.
  • Safety: comply with all safety regulations; identify non-compliance, propose fixes, and assist with correcting unsafe conditions.
  • Continuous Improvement: support logistics improvement projects and analyze transportation processes, costs, and proposals for improvements; implement DOT requirements relevant to Aurubis processes.
  • Other: collaborate with other departments to ensure lean cooperation; perform other duties as assigned.
Your Profile
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in SCM, Logistics & Transportation, or equivalent five years of experience as a Dispatcher;
    Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Open to additional certification at the company’s request.
  • Minimum of 5 years practical logistics experience; proven work experience as a logistics specialist, ideally in an international environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and product flows; experience with transport web platforms (Transporeon).
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials and customs clearance; familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Analytical and data reporting abilities; ability to present information to management and forwarders.
