Job QualificationsEducation:
An associate’s degree from an accredited university, college, or technical school in a transportation-related field preferred. Prior work experience in the transportation field may also be considered.
Certification or Licensure:
Must be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements within 90 days.
Skills:
Demonstrates knowledge of best practices in student transportation scheduling, personnel supervision, and special needs routing in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Understands transportation requirements related to IEPs, Section 504 plans, and adaptive equipment, with an emphasis on safety and compliance. Applies data analysis to improve efficiency and service delivery. Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication, collaborative problem solving, and proficiency with transportation-related technology and reporting systems.
Exhibits leadership skills including staff supervision and evaluation, team development, conflict resolution, sound judgment, and strategic decision-making.
Work Experience:
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience. Experience in a public-school transportation system is preferred, including experience with special needs transportation.
The SPED Supervisor supports the Assistant Director of Transportation by overseeing special education transportation services and supervising drivers, attendants, and the SPED Lead Driver. The position ensures safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant transportation for students with special needs through coordination with families, schools, fleet maintenance, and district personnel, while monitoring routing, staff performance, attendance, inspections, safety practices, and required testing.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Develops and maintains route sheets and schedules; monitors daily routing, absenteeism, and bus driver inspections.
