Courier - Corrections Refuse

CLASSIFICATION

TITLE:

Courier PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

Pick up and deliver mail from the Post Office and various county departments and buildings.

• Picks up mail from various departments and buildings; brings mail to mailroom and affixes postage; delivers mail to Post Office.
• Picks up mail from Post Office, sorts, and distributes to County offices. Checks packages and distributes computer reports.
• Transports and delivers stock items, supplies, and other items to departments throughout the County; loads and unloads items on delivery vehicle.
• May keep a log of items received and delivered; assists in routine vehicle maintenance; supervises inmates when assigned.

Performs other related duties as required.

High School Diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by five months previous experience and/or training that includes handling and delivering mail and reports; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.

• Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials up to 2050 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials up to 1000 pounds.
• Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depth and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
• Environmental Factors:
  Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as wetness, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, or traffic hazards.
